Adrian Alecu Bucharest 1992

found footage, VHS,4 Min, 2003

In the socialist Romania of the eighties the video camera was a very rare object. They were available on the black-market but it was very expensive. For the same price you might pay for the camera you could buy a small apartment. The video camera was used only for filming weddings or family events, and there are no art videos from the time. Maybe because Securitatea, with his repressive apparat were almost everywhere. The video Bucharest 1992, based on an found footage material, shows young Romanians in Bucharest in 1992 as they try to make an action film. The huge confusion within the Romanian society two years after the political changes can be seen it in these pictures. The lack of knowledge in making a film of this young men is similar with the naivety of the people in Bucharest regard the new political system. A documentary of that place at the time.
