Antonio Saluta Stelele
(Antonio Says Hello to the Stars) 200 Digital images in jpg format, each lasting seven seconds, superimposed on to a 16mm Celluloid frame
In this work I focused primarily on the shape and material of the work, and how film as a material, reacted to a strong and intermittent light source such as a welding light. As an analogue to the video I used a whip as a sound tool, which produces a loud and intermittent sound.
The video shows how film, as an artistic medium, can change the meaning of things by using filmic tools as light, perspective, editing, and set.
The film was shot completely in Hamburg, and the set is a reconstruction of the waiting hall of a Romanian railway station in the city of Teius, where I used to go as a child with my parents.
The title of the work, "Antonio Salute Stelele" (Antonio Says Hello to the Stars), comes from the concept of the role of females in Michelangelo Antonioni'́s movies, where the females are very aesthetic- a kind of a masculine image of the woman. In the last part of the film I use dialog from the Antonioni’s "Red Desert".
